Happy Home is a first-time homeowner's trusted guide to proper home care, providing users with routine task schedules, inclement weather preparation plans, and detailed DIY maintenance instructions.
In the creation of Happy Home, my goal was to help first-time homeowners gain lasting knowledge and confidence in their ability to properly maintain their homes.
To this end, I aimed to create a gamified user experience that would keep my audience engaged in learning, while also making relevant information accessible and approachable.

This project was executed as a self-directed capstone project for my undergraduate degree.
Intuitive Navigation
When planning the initial structure of the prototype, the main goal was ensuring smooth and intuitive navigation between different panels of the app. The overarching intent of this element was to create a multi-functional and informational database, so keeping the user in control of their navigational experience necessitated several rounds of stress-testing with users from a variety of backgrounds.

Targeted User Engagement
Home maintenance is a slow and steady process, and oftentimes positive results can't be appreciated immediately. In order to keep users engaged over time, I created an integrated minigame that provides the positive reinforcement users need to continue feeling motivated about taking care of their homes.

The game begins with a digital version of the user's home. As the user completes tasks in the app, they earn perk cards they can apply to their virtual home, which will start producing points called "vitality." The goal is to increase their home's vitality while strategically navigating different situations presented by the game.
After reaching set milestones, the game will progress the user into the next stages, which introduces additional game features. The game continues for as long as the user has the app, and over time, they will be able to see their home's lifetime statistics through the game tab.
Social Media Advertisements
In order to showcase a more complete end-to-end user experience, I included the design of two social media advertisements I created for the project. Not only would digital ads have increased potential click-through rates, but they were also likely to be the user's first impression of the service as a whole.
Curated Exposure
Advertising on social media has the added bonus of pattern-based feeds, meaning Happy Home's services are more likely to be pushed towards already-interested users. With this in mind, I decided to design the advertisements focusing less on the features and more on the app's relationship with the user: how it would create a friendly learning environment and help them grow as a homeowner.

Conclusions
The Happy Home project was a conceptual exploration of a service designed to improve the relationships between people and their homes. The app remains in its prototyping stage, but I have plans to continue working on its development for a potential product release in the future.
