Paper Pals is a four-person multiplayer party game that creates wholesome fun with charming characters and engaging minigames, bringing friends and family together to create lasting memories.
Working with a team of talented game developers, our goal was to create a shared gaming experience that provided interpersonal entertainment for players of all ages and backgrounds. My role in the project was the Lead UI Designer, creating all player interfaces and working alongside our software programmers to ensure a seamless transition from digital assets to functional code.
Paper Pals created an experience that aimed to revive the childlike wonder and imagination of our players, representing them as little paper animals and placing them in a world made of arts & crafts supplies. The in-game characters featured a range of charming animations and the included minigames were themed after a child's imaginative play scenes.
This project was undertaken in coordination with a group of game development students in their senior capstone class. In addition to leading the game's UI Design, I gave support to other roles including software programming, gameplay design, and marketing.
Expressive Design
One of the most important responsibilities I had on the team was to create a cohesive brand identity that encapsulated the essence of the player's experience in the game. I accomplished this by using a bright and friendly color scheme combined with a decorated paper-cut visual style and custom logo typography.

The Paper Pals brand represents the lightness through which a child sees the world, while keeping players grounded through the use of real-world material textures and accurate animation.
